The entertainment industry in Africa has experienced rapid growth over the past decade with artists overshadowing local dimness achieving global recognition as competition becomes stiffer forcing veteran musicians to shape up or shape out.

Music Industry has propelled artists like Davido, Wizkid, Sarkodie, Black Coffee, A. K. A, Diamond Platnumz, Tiwa savage, Olamide, Yemi Alade, Casper Nyovest amongst others to global fame in a short a time thanks to the media, demographics, internet and the gushing digital music streaming sites.

Emergence of established record labels powered by deep pocketed individuals who have invested heavily in the industry has been manifested by high quality of productions, new talents and the ever-growing record labels and artist management organizations.New comers have also found their way to the top in the showbiz industry many of whom have been around for less than 5 years.

The evolution of music in Africa has witnessed the introduction of new rhythms, increase in live performances, tours and international collabos playing a major role in the birth of new international stars.
Here are some of the new stars to watch.

Korede Bello

The Godwin hit-maker is the most viable artist in the list. At only 22 years he is already a members of Supreme Mavin Dynasty, Africa’s largest record label. The Prince of African music known for his vocals has already been featured in all mega hits from the Mavin Records from Dorobucci, Adaobi, Looku Looku to Jantamanta. He has also done collabos and singles which have propelled him to international fame. Backed by immense resources and super produce Don Jazzy, its only a matter of time before he takes over.

A big brand who works with big brands, he is arguable the best thing to have happened to Kenya’s music industry. Known by his multiple brand names from Willy Possessed,Willy Paul Msafi to Willy Pozze. Born Wilson Abubakar Radido , he rose to prominence in 2012 courtesy of his Sitolia hit he released alongside Gloria Muliro. His star has continued to shine amid critics from various quarters who have continued to accuse him of being a secular artist than a gospel artist.At only 24 he has won  multiple awards, world tours and media tours.

Everyone knows that he controls Kenyan music industry both online and offline,with a battalion of followers and haters on social media who are always snaking through his wall to keep up with him.No radio or TV station can survive without playing his music be it in secular or gospel shows. A contemporary gospel artist whose videos have always hit the 1 million views mark on YouTube.He continues to go international with collabos with Jamaican songstress Alaine and Bongo Flava’s Harmonize.He is arguably Kenya’s best live performer at the moment who doesn’t disappoint with electrifying performance that leaves fans yearning for more. A hard worker who recently launched his own record label Saldido Records which he says will help emerging talents in the industry.

Nasty C
Nicknamed the coolest kid in Africa, Nasty C has thickened his position in the Hip Hop world in a very short while dominating radio waves, presenting himself as one of the finest brand new acts in South Africa.

At just 21, He has scooped five musical awards out of seven nominations. They include Best freshman at South African Hip Hop awards 2015, Best New artist, Best new album, Best Hip Hop album, song of the year, all won at 16th metro FM music awards 2017. He was also nominated for BET awards Best international act 2017.
He already has three albums to his name, “Bad Hair” released 2016, “C. L. A. M. E” 2014 and “One kid a thousand coffins” released 2013.

Nasty C has also collaborated with big artist ie Davido and Casper Nyovest on his single “Juice Back remix” and has also featured American rapper French Montana on “Allow” a single from Bad hair extensions album.Nasty C real name, Nsikayesizwe David junior Ngcobo was born and raised in Durban South Africa.

 Falz.
Falz is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter and actor. Although his career started way back in 2009, Falz sprang into the limelight after releasing a hit single “Marry Me” which won him a nomination for Best collaboration of the year category at 2015 Nigerian Entertainment Awards.

He released his debut studio album in 2014 called “Wazup Guy” followed by another one in 2015 called “Stories that Touch”.
Falz, real name Folarin Falana has made an impressive rise to stardom in a very short while, since he first hit the limelight. Today he owns an independent record label called “Bahd Guys Records”.
He was ranked position 9 on NotJustOk list of “The 10 most Gifted rappers in 2014” for his unique delivery skills.

Away from that Falz has bagged numerous awards along the way including Best actor a Comedy/Series in 2016 Magic viewers Choice Awards, Album of the year 2016 City people entertainment awards, Besta artists Hip Hop video in 9th Nigerian Music video awards and the popular Viewers choice Best New international Act 2016 BET awards.

Amanda Black.
Born Amanda Benedicta Antony, Amanda us a South African singer and songwriter who rose to fame after the release of her single “Amazulu” in 2016. It was also followed by a studio album titled “Amazulu” which played a major role in her career as it went platinum three weeks after its release.

Her albums success led to her nominations in 5 categories at the South African Music awards 2017 and also a nomination for viewers choice: Best International act at the 2017 BET awards. She has won a total of six awards and 17 nominations in the two years she has been active.

In July 2017 she released another hit single “Kahle” which received immense acclamation making her one of the most sought after South African artists.She is currently signed Ambitiouz Entertainment. With her smooth upward trend, Amanda is undoubtedly an artist to watch.

Johnny Drille.
Born in Edo state Nigeria, John Ighodaro is a singer, songwriter and a sound engineer. He used to contest in project fame academy competition and was unnoticed until 2015 when he did a cover for Dija’s “Awww”. The cover became so popular earning him listeners and propelled him to great heights. It also caught the eye of Mavin records boss Don Jazzy, who signed him in the label in 2017.

With the release of “Wait for Me”, Johnny proved he was headed far as within no time the hit single was topping Nigerian charts and ruling radio airwaves, making him one of the newest sought after Nigerian artists. He has also released “Romeo and Juliet” and “My beautiful love” both of which in a way redefine love songs across Africa.
In 2016 Johnny was nominated for the Best alternative song for “Wait For me” at the headies.

With his extremely cool style of music and the shaping of a multidimensional tune different from the usual Nigerian style, Johny is truly set for the skies as his is a unique path.

Rayvany
Born Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa, Rayvany is one of the fastest budding East African artists. Hailing from WCB wasafi in Tanzania, he has released numerous hit singles and also collaborated with big artist in his major projects such as Diamond platnumz in “Salome”, Jason Derulo “Tip-Toe remix”, Maphorisa and DJ Bukz in “Makulusa” and many others. Other than being nominated for many awards Rayvany was also nominated and won the BET international viewers choice award 2017, being the first in East Africa to bag the award.
At just 24 he has already solidified his spot in East African musical scene and set to take of for international scenes.

Rayvany Was discovered and signed to WCB wasafi by Diamond platnumz in 2016 and since then he has never looked back.
He also adds up as one of the most disciplined acts of the recent times. He is a father of one.

 

Another notable artist is Babes Wodumo the South African rising star featured alongside Kendrick Lamar in a black panther soundtrack.
