Mavin Records.
Mavin records is a Nigerian record label owned and founded by record producer Don jazzy in 2012. Prior to its formation Don Jazzy co-owned together with D’banj what was called Mo’hits Records. Things didn’t work well and following it’s closure, Mavin records, which is also known as Supreme Mavin Dynasty was born. Mavin according to its former means skilled.

Mavin records is arguably the most successful music house in Africa, having signed some of the biggest Nigerian musical heavyweights namely Tiwa savage, korede Bello, Dr Sid, D Prince, Dija, Johny Drille, Reekado Banks, Poe, DNA Twins and Wande Coal who left the label. It is also a home to DJs and producers including Baby Fresh, Altims, Don Jazzy and DJ Big N who’s the labels’ official DJ.

Mavin Records has signed endorsement deals with Samsung, loya milk and Pepsi which signed with Tiwa savage when she joined the label.

Following it’s massive success, some researchers think Mavin Records and Jazzy could have an estimated net worth of $35 million, this could be true as it would come as a result of endorsement deals the label has signed with giant companies, away from that Don Jazzy benefits from the shows and deals of the artists signed under Mavin’s, he also shares in the shares of the songs produced by Mavin’s.

It has however, not always been a popular walk in the park for the label as it has severally clogged horns with some of its signees. In 2013 Wande coal, signed under mavins released a single “kilaju” without Mavin’s consent citing that the label could no longer grow his talent as he was outgrowing it. The singer left to form his own record label, Black Diamond Entertainment.

In addition to that it was said Wande and Jazzy disagreed over finances too, in November 2013 the label officially announced wande coals’ exit.

Another artist, Iyanya who had signed to mavins in 2016 after leaving Made Men Music was announced his departure after only a year with the record label. However, Mavin’s went ahead to produce his single “signature” in 2017.

Mavin records has released joint singles such as Dorobucci, Adaobi, and looku looku. It also released a joint album on may 2018 titled “solar plexus”.
The label won the best record award during the city people Awards in 2014.

Empire Mates Entertainment.

Empire Mates Entertainment is a Nigerian record label founded in 2002 by singer/actor Banky W. At the time of its formation Banky was a student the University of Albany, he used money earned from singing to patrons of hair and nail salons to finance the project.

In 2008 Banky relocated E. M. E to Lagos Nigeria where he signed Wizkid in 2009 as its first signee. Thereafter he signed Skales later in the year. EME would later sign other artists Shaydee, Niyola and Dj Xclusive who is the labels’ official DJ.

In 2012 Empire mates released it’s first joint artists album named “Empire State of Mind”. The label was nominated for best record label of the year in 2013 at City people entertainment awards.

In 2014, Wizkid and Skales left the label after expiration of their five year contract with the label. It was however said that, Wizkid left the label due to disagreements with its management, as Banky had breached their contract negotiations by pocketing 50% of Wizkids’ shows income while the artist got only 25%. The other 25% would go to Osagie, Wizkids former manager. Banky however denied the allegations saying Wizkid was still in the label.The same year Wizkid left to form his own label, Starboy entertainment.

Gallo Record Company

Gallo Record Company ,formed in 1926 by Eric Gallo is the largest record label in South Africa and one of the oldest. The label is based in Johannesburg and is currently owned by Times media Group.

The current Gallo company, came as a result of two labels coming together namely the original Gallo African and Gramophone record company.

Gallo being the fist recording company became home to local artists and classic oldies recordings, it also owns more than 75% of all recordings ever made in South Africa.
Its logo is a red rooster and it’s official website is .The label, which has dominated the South African music scene for decades owns recordings by many artists including Miriam Makeba, lady Smith,Black Mambazo, Hugh Masekela, Mahotella Queens, Makgena Tsohle and West Nkosi.

It has also signed Bongo Maffin, Elena Paparisou and the late reggae icon Lucky Dube.
Under Gallo, are small sub-labels namely Bula Music, Great South African performers, Mavuthela Music company, Sheer Group, New sound, RPM Dance and Tusk Music Co.

Kalawa Jazmee Records.
Kalawa Jazmee records is a South African independent label formed by recording artist and producer Oskido together with musicians and songwriters Christos Katsaitis and Don laka.
The label is home to recording artists Oskido, Uhuru, Heavy K, Black motion, Infinite boys, Proffesor and Busiswa.

Some of its past members include Mafikizolo, maphorisa, Boom Shaka, Black Coffee and Black motion all of whom are South African household names. The label is currently working on an album with Bongo Maffin which is set to be released later this year.

Wasafi Classic Baby stylzed as WCB is a Tanzanian record label owned and founded by singer, songwriter and dancer Diamond Platnumz. After struggling on his own in the showbiz industry and rising to the top, Diamond decided to come up with a record label that would nurture young talent and help them grow. Wasafi has grown to become the most successful label in East Africa with its young artists commanding airwaves with hit after hit.

The label is based in Dar es salaam Tanzania and is a home to award winning artists such as Rayvany, Rich Mavoko, Harmonize, Queen Darlene, Lavalava and Maromboso.
It also boasts of big Tanzanian managers namely Babu Tale, Sallam SK, Ricardo, Mkubwa Fella and Joel Vincent.

The label produced it’s first compilation hit single in 2017 named “zilipendwa” that was a massive success hitting more than 15 million views on YouTube.
It’s artists have been nominated for prestigious awards; Rayvany was nominated in category of breakthrough act 2016 in the MTV Africa music awards, nominated in AEUSA for Best New Talent, Uganda entertainment Award for best African act and finally nominated and won the BET Award for international viewers choice. Harmonize has won three awards from Watsup TV, AFRIMMA and AEA USA, for Best African new comer video, best new comer and best new artist respectively.
